After an impressive season, the Indians fall just short of making it to the dome for the state semi-finals. The Sioux Center Warriors knocked off #1 Clear Lake on Monday and they backed it up with a 14-0 win over #2 Spirit Lake.
The Warriors received the opening kickoff and chewed more than 8 minutes off the clock with a long drive, capped off by a 6-yard touchdown pass from Chris Borchers to Christian Rozeboom.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second and third quarters. In the fourth quarter, Borchers broke free on a 30-yard run for a touchdown, giving the Warriors a 14-0 lead with less than 6 minutes left. The Indians weren’t able to mount a comeback as they fell to 11-1 on the season.
It was a game of missed opportunities for the Indians. There was a potential touchdown pass dropped in the first half, a goal line stand by Sioux Center when the Indians had 2nd and goal at the 1, and a 60-yard Austin Folsom touchdown reception was called back due to a holding penalty. The Indians weren’t able to punch the ball in touchdowns, but they had opportunities.
Sioux Center advances to 11-1 on the season and will play in the semi-finals next Saturday for the second consecutive year.
