Spirit Lake drops their first game of the year

Spirit Lake suffered their first defeat of the season Friday night, dropping a non district game to Boyden Hull Rock Valley 31-8.  The Nighthawks led throughout, paced by the play of Andrew Van Ginkel.  The senior quarterback was 12 of 18 on the night for 176 yards and 3 touchdowns, but also had a big night on the ground, leading BHRV with 22 rushes for 154 yards, including a 96 yard scoring run late in the first half.  The Indian offense struggled to find a rhythm.  Quarterback Alec Henrickson completed 6 of 18 passes for 114.  He had the lone Spirit Lake touchdown, a one yard plunge early in the second half.  Josh Hofstra led the ground attack with 99 yards on 24 carries.  Spirit Lake had 263 yards of total offense, compared to 361 for Boyden Hull Rock Valley.  The Indians fall to 4-1, as they pass the midway point to the season.  District play returns next Friday as Spirit Lake plays host to East Sac in Homecoming at Hafer Field.
