Spirit Lake beats ELC is softball thriller
The fireworks came early with Spirit Lake edging Estherville Lincoln Central 6-5 in a Lakes Conference game. With the game tied going into the top of the 7th inning, Spirit Lake sophomore Kelsey Delperdang stole what would have been the go ahead home run from ELC’s Caitlyn Clayton at the fence. Then in the bottom of the 7th, Bailey Newman reached 2nd on a one out error, then while attempting to steal 3rd, the throw from home ended up in left field and Bailee crossed the plate for the game winner. Spirit Lake now has a 2 game lead over Western Christian in the conference race with 4 to play. Those two teams meet in a double header Thursday in Spirit Lake.
