Sat 2-1-2014

Spirit Lake was in Estherville last night for Lakes Conference basketball with the Midgets. The girls game saw the Indians get back on the winning track, downing Estherville Lincoln Central 57-21. The 21 scored by Estherville was the second lowest against the Indian defense this season. 10 players scored for Spirit Lake, led by Bailee Newman with 13. Estherville Lincoln Central was paced by Megan Jensen with 7. The Indians are now 13-4, 9-2 in conference play, the Midgets fall to 1-15 and 1-8.

The boys game came down to the wire, much like their first meeting in Spirit Lake back in December. In that game, Estherville won with a 3 pointer inside of 5 seconds left in overtime. Last night, it was again ELC hitting a 3 with just under 5 to play to lift the Midgets to a 58-55 win. Carsten Bosch drained the game winner with 4.6 on the clock. The Indians were then unable to advance the ball into the front court and the game ended. Spirit Lake’s Alec Henrickson led all scorers in the game with 29. Justin Heinrichs finished with 22 for Estherville who improve to 9-7 on the year, 5-5 in the Lakes Conference. Spirit Lake falls to 11-5, and 6-5. Next up for the Indians is a home match up with Emmetsburg on Tuesday. Estherville travels to Lemars on Tuesday.
