A Spencer High School athlete has signed to play on the Men’s Soccer squad at Iowa Lakes Community College.
Cole Loehr, a Spencer High School Senior, officially signed a letter of intent Friday afternoon.
“I’m delighted to have Cole part of the Laker family. I believe he will be an excellent addition to the squad and a tremendous asset to our attacking lineup,” said Laker Men’s Head Coach Ben MacRae. “Cole is a very hard worker, dedicated team player and will offer fantastic creativity going forward.”
The fact that Ben will continue to be his coach – and that Cole will be able to stay close to his family – played a part in his decision to come to Iowa Lakes.
Cole is looking forward to “…continue playing for Ben and … to keeping my playing career going.”
As a Laker, he plans to win.
“Our game will translate well over into the college game because in order to have a good team you need to be able to pass and move as you see some of the best teams in the world play that type of system and that’s the system that Ben likes to implement and I feel that will translate great over into the college game,” Cole said.
He wants to start a winning tradition.
“I’m looking forward to putting Iowa Lakes on the map for soccer.”
Cole has started on the varsity soccer team all four years of his high school career and was heavily recruited by three other colleges.
The high school soccer season continues for the Spencer Tigers. They are having an outstanding season and are currently 13-0 on the season. During his career, Cole has a total of 48 goals – 17 of them just this season. Also, he stands with 28 assists – 9 of those are from this spring.
Practice for the Lakers begins August 11, so Cole will have the summer to play club soccer for the NWI Soccer Club based out of Spencer.
Academically, Cole plans to take general coursework to receive his Associate in Arts Degree and then transfer to a four-year college while continuing to play soccer.
Cole is the son of Wade Loehr and Angela and Ben MacRae.
