Spencer Football Takes Down Emmetsburg
Spencer used 3 big plays and forced 4 turnovers in defeating Emmetsburg 28 - 14 on Friday night. When Emmetsburg opened up the ball game with the football they were driving in Spencer territory until Dylan Ellis stripped away the football from Thomas Schultes and ran it back for 58 yards for a touchdown. Spencer would score another big play before the end of the quarter on a 60 yard touchdown run by quarterback Trey Hookfin. The E'hawks did score in the 1st quarter to tie it up at 7 before that 60 yard run by Hookfin. Neither team would score in the 2nd quarter and it was 14 - 7 Spencer at the half. In the 3rd quarter, both teams put together good drives and both score a touchdown. It was still a 7 point difference heading into the final quarter. In the 4th quarter, Spencer would put it away thanks to a 76 yard pull away run by John Greer and Spencer would lead 28 - 14 and hold the rest of the way.
For total offense, both teams were equal. Spencer would get 198 yards on the ground, 44 thru the air and would finish with 242 yards. Emmetsburg had 146 on the ground and 55 in the air for a total of 201. Individually, John Greer had 138 yards and 2 touchdowns for Spencer. Emmetsburg was led by Thomas Schultes rushing for 101 and 1 touchdown. Emmetsburg falls to 1 - 1 and will host West Fork next Friday. Spencer improves to 1 - 1 and will be at Boyden Hull Rock Valley.
