Sibley Ocheyedan Basketball Takes Two From Okoboji
Sibley-Ocheyedan had a big night inside the paint and claimed second place in the Siouxland Conference with a 60-46 win in Sibley over Okoboji on Tuesday night. The Generals built an early 15-7 lead after one quarter and led 27-18 at halftime. The lead grew to 42-31 after three quarters. Foul trouble haunted the Pioneers most of the night.
S-O got 19 points out of Bridget Doeden and 17 points from Kayla Ackerman. The Generals are 15-6 (13-5 Siouxland) and host North Union in the opening round of Girls Class 2A Regional play on Saturday night. Abby Taylor had 21 for Okoboji who finishes the regular season at 15-7 (12-6 Siouxland). They await the winner of the S-O/North Union game on Tuesday night in regional play in Milford.
Sibley-Ocheyedan picked up their first Siouxland Conference win of the season, a 66-58 victory in a back and forth game against Okoboji on Tuesday night. The Generals led early but Okoboji built an 18-15 lead after one quarter. The Pioneers then built their lead to as much as 10 before S-O pulled within 6 at halftime. Okoboji held onto the lead for the first half of the third quarter, but the Generals finished on a run to take a 45-43 lead at the start of the fourth quarter. It was back and forth in the fourth for most of the quarter, but the Generals made enough free throws and got some steals to earn the win.
Grant Juber led all scorers for the Generals with 25. Ty Hanna had 20 for S-O while Devin Vander Veen had 11. The Generals (3-18, 1-17) open up district basketball play on Monday in a late game at Estherville-Lincoln Central. Okoboji got 22 from Holt Hunziker, including four first half three pointers. Alex Heller had 18 for the Pioneers (2-18, 1-16 Siouxland) who finish up their regular season at Sioux Center on Friday. They open district play on Monday in Estherville and take on Emmetsburg in the early game.
