OKOBOJI & HMS BASEBALL ADVANCE IN THE POSTSEASON

Class 2A District 2 In Estherville

Game 1

Okoboji got off to a fast start in their postseason game against Sheldon scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning which led them to an 9 – 3 victory over the Orabs on Monday night in Estherville.  The Pioneers would get 2 more in the 4th and break it open with 4 runs in the 5th inning.  Okoboji would finish the game with 9 runs on 10 hits.  Sheldon was limited to 3 runs on the night on 6 hits.

Jakob Fritsch was 2 – 2 with 2 RBI’s for the Pioneers, Ben DeMuth was 2 – 3 with 2 RBI’s and Matt Eckard was 2 – 4 with an RBI.  Sheldon was led by Colby Kleinhesslink going 2 – 4 with an RBI.  The winning pitcher was Houston Hawkins going 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 8 and walking 6.  The losing pitcher was Ben Marshall going 4 2/3 innings giving up 8 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits.

Okoboji improves to 8 – 15 will take on Estherville Tuesday night at 7:15 PM on Q 102.  Sheldon ends their season at 7 – 15.

Game 2

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn won a pitchers dual against Sibley-Ocheyedan 4-1 in
Class 2A District 2 Baseball Quarterfinals on Monday Night in Estherville.  The
Hawks put up two runs in the second and a run each in the fifth and sixth.  The
Generals’ lone run was in the third inning.

 
Casey Dorhout struck out 10 batters to earn the victory on the mound.  He
gave up the one earned run on one hit and walked two.  At the plate, Dakotah
Goodvin was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI.  David Conway was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks
and a RBI.  Nathan Westphal was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two stolen bases.  H-M-S improves to 13-10 and now faces Emmetsburg in the district semifinal on
Tuesday night at 5:00 p.m. in Estherville.  You can hear the game on Q102.
 
S-O’s Jameson Cosgrove took the loss on the mound.  He gave up four runs
(all earned) on five hits.  He walked four and struck out one.  Garret Sayler had
the one hit and run scored for the Generals, who finish at 1-22.  S-O graduates
just one senior, Zach Venenga.
