Okoboji Basketball Sweeps Emmetsburg
The #6 ranked Class 2A Okoboji Pioneers defeated Emmetsburg 59-39 on Tuesday night to remain unbeaten on the season. Okoboji got off to a slow start and trailed 9-7 after the first quarter. Emmetsburg would build the lead to 17-9 before the Pioneers would end the half on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to one at the break 19-18. Okoboji would turn up the defensive pressure in the third quarter and go on a 12-0 run to start the quarter while keeping things going for a 39-26 lead at the end of the third. The Pioneers would keep up the pressure in the fourth quarter and build the lead to 23 at one point before taking the 20 point victory. Okoboji was led by Megan Peschong, as the senior had another great night with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Emily Wintz added 14 points with 5 rebounds and Molly Mitchell had 12 points with 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Shaelyn Adams had 6 assists with 5 steals and Brenna McCabe added 5 assist. Emmetsburg was led by Bailey Naig with 11 points. Okoboji improves to 12-0 on the season and will host West Lyon on Friday. Emmetsburg falls to 2-9 and will travel to LeMars Friday on Y 100.
The Okoboji boys basketball team picked up a non conference win Tuesday night defeating Emmetsburg 68-59. After a very fast paced competitive 1st quarter in which Okoboji led 16-13, the Pioneers distanced themselves from the E'hawks in the 2nd quarter outscoring them 18-4 to lead 34-17 at the half. Emmetsburg would out score Okoboji in the 2nd half 42-34 but could not recover from the low scoring 2nd session. The Pioneers were led by Alex Heller with 26 points, Luke Wollenburg with 15 and Jake Dodge with 12. Emmetsburg got 17 points from Thomas Schultes and 14 from Max Dunlap. Okoboji improves to 4-7 while Emmetsburg drops to 3-8.
