That was another big road win for us where we really had to lock in and guard. I thought both teams played excellent defense, and it was hard for either team to get an offensive flow going. We couldn’t get much separation, and you have to give West Lyon credit for how well they guarded us. It was great to see us not panic when they took the late lead, and Carissa gave Magan a terrific pass for her big 3-pointer. We hit some clutch free throws down the stretch and Kallyn made a great move to give us a four point lead. Our posts did a great job of trying to limit Meyer’s touches, and that’s hard to do as she’s a tremendous player. Camry, Montana Wilson and Morgan Robinson really battled all game long, and our guards did a good job of helping out as well.
The Pioneers traveled to Inwood Tuesday night for another Siouxland Conference matchup. Both teams got off to a hot start ending the first quarter with the score tied at 19. The Pioneers went into halftime leading 39-34. Both teams continued to battle in the third with a 47-44 Okoboji lead going into the fourth. The game ended with a final score of 71-69 in favor of West Lyon. Lucas Lorenzen led the Pioneers with 20 points. Jaden Heller and Jamison Helmers each had 15 and 14 respectively. Seniors Tyler Adams and Kyle Martin contributed 8 and 7 points on the night. Okoboji falls to 5-5. It is the Pioneers third straight loss by two points or less. The will host Emmetsburg on Thursday.
Comments From Head Coach Ryan Stumbo
The game tonight was really competitive and came down to the difference of a few plays. It was a tough battle from both teams, and we really respect the fight both teams gave tonight. This will be a good test of character for us. It is easy when things go the way you wan them to and a lot harder when they don't. One thing we work to take pride in is continuing to pound the rock through those hard times. We are looking forward to another chance to compete later this week.
