The Emmetsburg softball team got off to a quick start on Friday night in Fonda scoring 2 runs in the first inning. However, it was the fourth inning for Manson that proved to be the difference as they scored 3 runs that inning and would end up defeating Emmetsburg 6 – 3 in a Class 2A Region 2 semifinal. Manson NW Webster scored 1 run in the 1st, 1 in the 3rd, 3 in the 4th and 1 in the 6th inning. Emmetsburg would score 2 in the 1st inning and 1 in the 5th.
The E’hawks had just 4 hits on the night and were led by Bailee Garrelts going 1 – 3 with 2 RBI’s. The Cougars had 9 hits and were led by Kaitlyn Thompson going 3 – 4 and Jocelyn Keller was 1 – 4 with 2 RBI’s. The winning pitcher was Alli Miller going 7 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits. The losing pitcher was Ashton Connelly going 6 innings giving up 6 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits.
Emmetsburg ends their softball season at 19 – 12 and say goodbye to one senior in Tegan Olson. Manson NW Webster improves to 16 – 10 and will face St. Ansgar in a regional final as they defeated Belmond Klemme 6 – 1. That regional final will be Monday July 14 in Algona.
