Putting him in a list with Mike Stewart (1,527: 95-96), Von McDade (1,425: 86-88), Marcus Owens (1,372: 91-92, 93-94), Tory Meiborg (1,298: 93-95), Bob Grems (1,231: 72-74), Dave Moritz (1,071: 87-89), Troy Larson (1,054: 91-93), Dean Kesler (1,054: 87-89), Danny Heller (1,033: 92-94), and Anthony Anderson (1,001: 90-92).
When asked about Deondre, Head Coach Troy Larson had this to say, “Dre had an incredible career for us at Iowa Lakes. Most people will recognize his scoring, but he brought a toughness to our program. He competed every day and was a great leader.
“He bought into what we were trying to do and gave us his heart,” Larson added. “You can’t ask anything more of a player. He has been solid in the classroom and has really matured in his two years with us. South Dakota State is getting a good one in him.”
Love averaged 16.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1 assist per game for Iowa Lakes. He shot 60 percent from the field and 100 percent from behind the arc (2-2) this season.
“Latrell was one of the most talented low post players in the conference. He was very productive in the low block and could score on most teams,” Larson said. “He worked hard at the end of the year to play in a manner that helped us win games. Latrell matured during his year at Iowa Lakes and he would be a good player at the four-year level.”
McKinley averaged 8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game for the Lakers. He shot 79 percent from the free throw line.
“Diamontae was very solid in his two years at Iowa Lakes. He was very good at all the little things in the game of basketball. He competed, guarded hard, rebounded, and made sound decisions with the ball,” commented Larson. “He was a very good leader for us and we will miss him in our program. Diamontae is a good student who is on pace to graduate.”
The Laker men ended their season 23-9 earning second place in the regional tournament losing to DMACC 69-71. Parks and Love were named to the ICCAC Region XI All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the game.
