Harris-Lake Park Routs Laurens-Marathon In Regular Season Finale
Harris-Lake Park scored early and often and punched their ticket into the playoffs with a lopsided 50-6 win over Laurens-Marathon on Friday night. Thor Larson got the scoring started with 8:56 to go in the first quarter as he ran it in from five yards out. After a missed extra point it was 6-0. Jordan Kyle recovered a fumble on the Chargers' second play and the Wolves used the short field to their advantage. Dahlton Burdorf ran it in from eight yards out and HLP led 14-0 after a 2 point conversion. Larson would later score on a 20 yard run and Skylar Cudmore would have a one yard touchdown run to make it 28-0 HLP after one quarter. Cudmore scored again, this time a 21 yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter and the Wolves made it 35-0. The clock would run continuously for the remainder of the half, but LM would show some life following a 26 yard field goal by Burdorf. Noah Anderson returned a kickoff return for a touchdown to end the half and HLP led 38-6.
It wouldn't take long in the third quarter for the Wolves to get back the continuous clock. Kyle caught an 11 yard touchdown pass from Burdorf and the Wolves led 44-6. HLP also got a 29 yard touchdown run in the second half from Ryan Gembler.
Offensively HLP had 261 yards on the ground. Larson led the way with 124 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns, all in the first half. The Wolves had nearly 300 yards rushing on the night. Burdorf threw for 102 yards. Defensively, Kole Ruml and Kyle had fumble recoveries. Gembler and Cudmore each had a sack and HLP improves to 5-4 (4-3 District). They make the playoffs as the number four seed from 8 Player District 2 and will play on the road on Wednesday against a number one seed. Laurens-Marathon finishes their season at 1-8 (1-6 District). They graduate six seniors from this year's squad: Hayden Anderson, Wyatt Shannon, Jordan Gunnarson, Tre Seiler, and Logan Sampers.
Central Bank and Insurance Player of the Game: Skylar Cudmore for a great night on defense for the Wolves. He had a sack and several nice tackles.
