Emmetsburg Softball Has Big 6th Inning To Advance

Pocahontas controlled the first 5 1/2 innings of a
Class 2A postseason softball game against Emmetsburg leading 7 – 0 until
pitching would fall apart in the bottom of the 6th giving up 13 runs in the
inning and the E’hawks would prevail 13 – 7.  The Indians scored 3 runs in the
4th and 4 runs in the 6th inning to lead 7 – 0, but Emmetsburg would respond in
the bottom of the 6th sending 17 batters to the plate scoring 13 runs on 5 hits
while drawing 8 walks.  Pocahontas would be retired in order in the 7th inning
and Emmetsburg would win and advance in the postseason.
 
The E’hawks scored 13 runs on 5 hits and were led
by Sarah Simington going 1 – 3 with 2 RBI’s.  The Indians scored 7 runs on 7
hits and were led by Autumn Radig going 1 – 2 with 3 RBI’s.  The winning pitcher
was Ashton Connelly going 7 innings, giving up 7 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits while
striking out 6 and walking 3.  The losing pitcher was Jill Vonnahme going 1/3 of
an inning giving up 8 runs on 4 hits and walking 5.  Jocelyn Johnson started the
game and gave up 3 runs on 1 hit in 5 innings and she walked 7.  Pocahontas
pitching accounted for 12 walks.  The Indians finish their season at 3 – 23. 
The E’hawks are now 18 – 11 and will play at Alta Wednesday July 9th at 7 PM on
Y 100.
