Emmetsburg Baseball Ends Season After Loss To Hinton At Substate

The Emmetsburg baseball team took on Hinton Tuesday night in Spirit Lake with a trip to state on the line.  Hinton would get a lead off homerun to take the early 1-0 lead.  Emmetsburg answered in the home half of the inning to tie things up at 1 after an RBI single from Luke Jackson.  Hinton would score 2 more in the 2nd inning and 4 in the 4th to defeat Emmetsburg 7-3.  The E’hawks did get 2 more runs in the 7th inning but it was not enough as they end their season.

Hinton had 7 runs on 7 hits and were led by Cole Siders going 3-4 with 2 RBI’s and Corey Peters was 1-4 with 2 RBI’s.  Emmetsburg scored 3 runs on 4 hits.  They were led by Luke Jackson going 2-4 with an RBI.  The winning pitcher was Collin Jurgensmeier going all 7 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits while striking out 10.  The losing pitcher was Dillon Van Oosbree going 3 1/3 giving up 7 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits.  Emmetsburg pitching on the night accounted for 10 walks.

Emmetsburg finishes their season at 18-12 and say goodbye to seniors Aaron Bird and Joe Jackson as well as head coach Mike Brennan who is retiring.  Hinton improves to 23-8 and will be the #7 seed in the 2A State Baseball tournament and will take on #2 seeded Dyersville Beckman Monday at 6 PM in Des Moines.
