Girls Class 1A Region 1 Postseason Basketball
Harris Lake Park jumped out to an early 19 – 10 advantage after the 1st quarter and never looked back in defeating West Bend Mallard 72 – 59 Thursday night in the opening round of the Class 1A girls postseason tournament. West Bend Mallard would get to within 6 points at half and at one point 2 points in the 3rd quarter but never did get the lead. The wolverine’s chance at a comeback took a major hit when leading scorer Lauren Link fouled out with 7:45 left to go in the 4th quarter. At that stage of the game she had hit 5 three pointers and had 18 points. Harris Lake Park would seal the victory in the end going to free throw line 20 times in the 4th quarter and hitting 10 of those.
Harris Lake Park had 4 players in double figures. They include Noreen Morrow with 24, Mikey Heikens with 13, Miranda Brueggeman with 12 and Katherin Ihnen with 12 points. West Bend Mallard had 2 players in double figures. They were led by Lauren Link with 18 points and Ashley Schmidt with 16. West Bend Mallard finishes their season at 1 – 19, while Harris Lake Park improves to 16 – 6 and will host Graettinger Terril/Ruthven Ayrshire on Tuesday as they defeated Algona Garrigan 54 – 47.
Other Class 1A Region 1 scores had Marcus Meriden Cleghorn a winner over Clay Central Everly 58 – 46, Lemars Gehlen over Trinity Christian 52 – 33, Central Lyon over West Sioux 56 – 36, Akron Westfield downed Remsen Union 57 – 48 and George Little Rock defeated Remsen St. Mary’s 60 – 40.
