The Spirit Lake-Okoboji Boys and Girls tennis teams each

got wins from all six varsity singles players.
Brandon Stoll won 10-4; Andrew Ites won 10-0; Trystan Wiedow won 10-1;
C.J. Kent collected a 10-5 win; Tyler Schmitz and Ryley Smith each won 10-0. Two of the boys three doubles teams also won.
Comments from Spirit Lake-Okoboji Coach Dan Taylor:
“This has
been a wild spring when it comes to weather, and it has kept the guys from
being able to get regular matches and practice time in. So even though the weather wasn’t ideal for
this meet, it was still good to get out on the court again. And given that they hadn’t played much at all
this past week, they played very well for the most part. ELC’s players were improved from the last 2
seasons, so there were some good points played throughout the meet. We were very solid at the bottom of the
lineup especially today getting 10-0 wins at 5 singles, 6 singles and 3
doubles. Andrew also won 10-0 at 2
singles. ELC’s #1 doubles team played
extremely well and earned their victory.
They played some I-formation which seemed to throw Andrew and Trystan
off a little. Their solid play combined
with a few errors and double faults on our side got them in too big of a hole
to climb out of. But I will look forward
to seeing the #1 doubles teams play again later in the season – they are fairly
closely matched when both teams are playing their best. This win improves our conference record to
2-1, and is a great way to build some momentum and confidence again after the
close match losses against Spencer a week ago.”
The Girls improved to 3-0, behind wins from their top five
singles players. Rachel Westergaard won
10-8; Olivia Rohlk collected a 10-3 victory; Natalie Delaney won 10-3; Heather
Sorenson was victorious by the score of 10-1; and Hannah Schoning won 10-2.
The top three girls doubles teams also won. Here’s Coach Bob O’Hara.
