The Spirit Lake High School softball team won its fifth in a row, last night, with a dominating performance over Emmetsburg, defeating the E’hawks 19-4 in 5 innings.
The Indians scored 19 runs on 17 hits. They were led by Paige Krause as she went 4 – 4 with 6 RBI’s. She was a triple short of the cycle. Carly Ites was 4 – 4 with 3 RBI’s. Also, Kayla Herrig was 3 – 4 with 2 RBI’s and Alissa Christoffer was 2 – 5 with 2 RBI’s. Emmetsburg scored 4 runs on 6 hits and they were led by Miranda Vlasman, Jacque Carlson and Ashton Connelly all going 1 – 2 with an RBI. The winning pitcher was Bailee Newman pitching all 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3 and walking 4.
Gerking says Indians work hard on hitting
That’s Spirit Lake Coach Rachel Gerking, whose team is now 11-9 and are home against Alta-Aurelia, tonight. Emmetsburg drops to 4 – 12 and will be at Algona tonight.
The Okoboji softball team blanked West Lyon, 8-0.
The Pioneers host Pocahontas Area, tonight.
The HLP softball team also won both games of their double header. In the first game, they beat Corwith-Wesley-Luverne, 25-0, in three innings. Kathryn Ihnen was 2-for-5 with 5 RBIs and a double. Noreen Morrow went 3-for-5 with 2 RBIS and a double.
The Wolves won the second game, 12-0, as Grace Heikens went 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBIs. Grace Winters was 2-for-2. Macy Gunderson won both games on the mound.
