Spirit Lake hosts Cherokee

Spirit Lake swept two games from Cherokee Friday night in Lakes Conference basketball.  The girls game saw the Braves jump out to an early 12 point lead, but the Indians came back to lead in the 4th quarter.  In fact, Spirit Lake would outscore Cherokee 34-21 in the second half on their way to a 66-58 win.  Emma Dau was best for Spirit Lake offensively with 18 points.  Bailey Loveall added 15.  Mackenzie Thate finished in double figures with 10.  Cherokee was paced by freshman Makenna Carver with 17.  The Indians have now won 9 in a row, and are 12-3 overall, 8-1 in the Lakes Conference.  Cherokee falls to 5-11 and 2-7.

The Spirit Lake boys steadily pulled away from Cherokee in their side of the double header, winning 70-44.  Alec Henrickson led the Indians with 28.  Billy Brown was also in double figures with 13.  Tyler Feist scored 26 for Cherokee, hitting six 3 pointers.  The loss keeps Cherokee winless on the season at 0-16.  Spirit Lake improves to 11-3, 6-3 in league play.  The Indians are on the road Tuesday to face top ranked Western Christian in Hull.
