Spencer Baseball Edges E’Burg in 12 Innings


Emmetsburg took the lead early with
a grand slam homerun from Jake Jackson in the 3rd inning and it was 4
– 0 until the bottom of the 4th inning when Brady Illg from Spencer
hit a HR and it was 4 – 1 until the bottom of the 5 inning when Spencer scored 3
runs on 3 Emmetsburg errors and tied it up at 4 all the way until the
10th inning.  In the 10th Emmetsburg scored a run only to
have Spencer score a run in the bottom of the 10th thanks to another
2 errors committed by the E’Hawks.  It would stay tied until the 12th
inning when Spencer got runners on 1st and 3rd with 2
outs; Jordan Plueger hit a groundball and Aaron Bird for Emmetsburg flipped to
second to try to get the force and it was not in time and Weston Glienke scored
from 3rd giving the Tigers the win in 12 innings.  It snaps Spencer’s
3 game losing streak.  Spencer improves to 8 – 8 and 5 – 3 in the conference and
will be at the Carroll Kuemper Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.  Emmetsburg
falls to 7 – 7, and 1 – 7 in the conference and will host HWC on
Monday.

 

Spencer scored 6 runs on 8 hits and
committed 2 errors.  They were led by Austin Allen 3 – 6 and Brady illg was 1 –
5 with an RBI HR.  Emmetsburg scored 5 runs on 8 hits and committed 7 errors. 
They were led by Jake Jackson 2 – 6 with RBI’s and Greg Wesley was 2 – 5. 

Matthew Klemme was the starting pitcher for Spencer and went 6 2/3
innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and 8 strikeouts.  Brady illg came in relief
and got the win as he went 5 1/3 and gave up 1 run on 1 hit and 8 strikeouts. 
Luke Jackson was the starting pitcher for Emmetsburg and went 5 innings giving
up 4 runs (1 earned) and Taylor Wegner took the loss going 7 innings and giving
up 2 runs (1 earned) and striking out 8.

The Spencer softball team blanked Emmetsburg, 10-0.
