Okoboji Volleyball Invitational

Okoboji went 2-1 tonight at our home invite. We lost in three to West Bend Mallard, beat Sibley-Ocheydan and ELC in two sets.

The first match of the night was against WBM. We came out and commanded the first set. We were able to get them out of system and capitalized on errors. The second set we missed 5 serves and ended up dropping the set 16-21. I told the girls the difference came down to the serving. We were behind in set three but battled back to tie it up at 14s, but lost 16-14. I was proud of the fight they showed throughout, especially at the end of set three.

Our second match with Sibley, we were behind in the first set due to some poor serve receive and missed serves. We were able to battle back and win the first set. Going into the second set we passed and served better. We were able to utilize all of our hitting options and got the job done.

Our final match of the night against ELC went well. Riley and Grace both went on long serving runs which helped us a lot and we received free balls back from them that we were able to capitalize on.

We ended in second place on the night, but we know there is always work to be done going forward.

Stats from the night:

Grace Leman – 8 aces, 32/33 serving, 18 kills, 6 blocks

Celeste DeVos – 14 kills, 15 digs

Katie Jensen – 21 digs, 5 aces

Alexa Christoffels – 38 assists

We open Siouxland Conference play 9/11 at Unity Christian.
