Okoboji Volleyball Finishes 3rd At ELC Tournament

Okoboji competed at the ELC Invite yesterday, earning 3rd on the day, only dropping one match to Emmetsburg in three sets.

Pool Play Recap:

We started the day with HLP. We came out with a strong offensive performance. Celeste DeVos led the way with 10 kills on 14 swings, 1 error. We were able to take them out of system the majority of the match with aggressive serves as well and tallied 4 aces.

Our second match with Emmetsburg was a great one. We struggled behind the service line in set one, ultimately giving them 5 free points while we only lost 21-18. We battled back in set two to secure the win before dropping set three 17-15 on a couple of dicey no touch calls (in my opinion) 🙂 Our serve recieve did a nice job on being consistent throughout the match and our defense made some big plays. Jordyn Mitchell led the dig charge with 6.

Our final pool play match was with Spirit Lake. We know it is tough to beat a team three times in one season, but our girls were up for the challenge and came out on top. It was a solid team effort all the way around, but I was most impressed with our serve receive as all passers passed 2 and above. Alexa Christoffels did a nice job spreading the ball out to all of the hitters and tallied 24 assists in the match.

We would finish 2nd in our pool and take on Sheldon in a match for third place. Having just played them Tuesday and not getting the win, really fueled our team to come out and take charge. We would win the contest 2-0. Our serving was strong as we had 6 aces as a team. Grace Leman hit .500 with 5 kills on 10 swings and no errors. Celeste DeVos led the defensive charge with 6 digs.

A few total stats on the day:

Alexa Christoffels – 80 assists, 12 digs

Celeste DeVos – 19 digs, 42 kills

Addilyn Plathe – 37/38 serving with 2 aces

Grace Leman – 3 aces, 26 kills
