Okoboji High School to Host 3rd Annual Coaches vs Cancer Night

On Friday, January 24th, the Okoboji High School Girls and Boys Basketball Programs will be hosting their 3rd annual Coaches v. Cancer Night in conjunction with JV and Varsity girls and boys basketball games against Sheldon at Okoboji High School in Milford.

It’s time to finish the fight against cancer.  The Okoboji Girls and Boys Basketball coaches will join basketball coaches across the country during the Coaches v. Cancer National Awareness Weekend, January 24-26, as they unite to fight cancer and raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society.  The Okoboji coaches will be wearing sneakers during the games Friday night as that will serve as a visual reminder that physical activity is a key ingredient to reducing one’s risk to the disease, and to raise awareness about the fight against cancer,

There will be a tail-gate party starting at 430 PM in the new gym lobby served by the Okoboji After Prom Committee.  They will be serving chili, cinnamon rolls, and a bottle of water for $5.  The JV girls and boys basketball games will begin at 445 PM, the Varsity girls game at 615 PM with the Varsity boys game to follow.

The Okoboji High School students will also be participating in a Coin Rush battle during the day on Friday to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

One lucky fan will also have the opportunity to shoot a half-court shot to win $350 cash at halftime of the Varsity girls game.  Each person attending the game on Friday will receive 1 FREE ticket and one person will be drawn at random to have the opportunity to shoot the half-court shot.

The Okoboji Girls and Boys Basketball teams will also have signed jerseys available in a silent auction.

Several outstanding sponsors have teamed up with the Okoboji High School Girls and Boys Basketball Programs in this project – Salon Eleven11, Okoboji Booster Club, Oak Hill Marina, Lakes News Shopper, Blink Marketing, Northwest Iowa Sprinkler, Cutting Edge Sales & Service, Bank Midwest, Northwest Bank, Farmers Savings Bank, David & Ann Stein, Great Lakes Basketball, The Three Sons, Lakes Regional Healthcare, and the Okoboji High School Athletic Department.

All proceeds from all promotions will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
