Okoboji’s defense was relentless on Friday night in a 59-22 victory over Sheldon in Milford. Earlier this year the Orabs beat the Pioneers in overtime in Sheldon, but the game was never in doubt this time. The Pioneer’s pressure helped force the Orabs into committing 26 turnovers. Okoboji led 13-7 after one quarter, 33-12 at halftime, and 45-17 after three quarters.
Megan Peschong led all scorers with 15. Darby Jones was not far behind with 14, and Abby Taylor chipped in 11 as the Pioneers improve to 12-4 (11-3 Siouxland). They host Central Lyon on Tuesday. That contest can be heard on KUOO. Sheldon’s Emily Johnson had 7. The Orabs are 9-7 (7-6 Siouxland).
Boys
Okoboji fell to Sheldon 66-48 in Siouxland Conference boys basketball on Friday night in Milford. The Pioneers trailed 21-7 after one quarter and 34-22 at halftime. In the third, Okoboji used a run to cut the lead to six, but Turner Dejong hit four three pointers to put the game out of reach for Sheldon.
Dejong led the Orabs with 17 overall including five three pointers. Colin Wolthizen had 14 and Ian Jongewaard had 10, who is now 5-9 (4-8 Siouxland). Okoboji’s Holt Hunziker had 17 points. Tyeson Barnett went 6-for-8 at the charity stripe and had 14 points overall for the Pioneers who are 2-13 (1-11 Siouxland). Okoboji hosts Central Lyon on Tuesday. You can hear the game on KUOO.
