Mavericks Split Hoops For Heart Comebacks

The Martin County West basketball team split the Karson Kent Janssen Memorial Hoops for Heart games on Saturday in Trimont. 

The MCW boys started the varsity action by building a 35-21 halftime lead but then GHEC-T-ML rallied to a 62-47 win over the Mavericks. 

Chase Owens led MCW with 12 points and Brycen Kettner added 10 points. 

Caden Loken scored eight points, Kayden Glidden put in five points, and Lixon Forsberg added four points. Knox Larson made one three-pointer. Jackson Wilmes and Landen Winter each scored two points. Talon Ebeling made a free throw. 

The 2-19 Mavericks visit St. James Area on Tuesday. 

The MCW girls trailed by as many as 16 before coming back to a 45-43 victory over the Jaguars. 

Emily Schettler sank a pair of free throws in the final minute to clinch the Mavericks win. She collected five points. 

Ida Rohman led MCW with 10 points. Courtney Anderson and Bailey Larson each scored eight points. Ivy Olson collected seven points and Maddie Carlson added four points. Stella Rohman made a three-pointer and Taylor Hughes added two points. 

The 13-10 Mavericks visit Maple River on Tuesday.
