The Martin County West softball team overcame Windom Area on the road Friday.
The Mavericks rallied to a thrilling 3-2 win over the Eagles.
Maddie Carlson smacked the go-ahead RBI double that scored Rowan Faber in the top of the seventh inning and proved to be the difference. Carlson also tossed nine strikeouts, scattered four hits, and neither run was earned during her complete game performance despite getting hit by a line drive in the sixth.
Mavericks head coach Darrell Ziegler says the little details make a big impact when both teams are pitching well like they did on Friday.
Windom broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning.
The Eagles committed one of their six errors on a soft liner by Courtney Anderson and Lillie Schultz scored the MCW equalizer in the top of the third.
Another error by the Eagles on a bunt by Addy Wohlhuter helped score Bailey Larson to put the Mavericks ahead 2-1 in the sixth.
Windom tied the game back up in the home half before Carlson’s clutch double in the next frame. Emma Geldart had the only other MCW hit.
The 2-0 Mavericks are scheduled to host Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey on Monday.
