The Martin County West baseball team lost to Madelia in five innings on Monday.
The Blackhawks scored twice during the top of the first inning before adding four more runs in the second and third for a 10-0 lead. The Mavericks broke up the shutout in the bottom of the third when Brock Jagodzinske scored on a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded. Madelia scored twice in the fourth to make it 12-1 Blackhawks. MCW added another run in the home half and made it 12-2 Madelia when Kaleb Kennedy walked home after Preston Cepress got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Blackhawks scored eight more in the top of the fifth to make the 20-2 final score in five innings by run rule.
The 0-2 Mavericks host Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Tuesday and that will be the Coyotes’ season opener.
