Iowa Lakes Community College Head Wrestling Coach Cody Alesch has put his time in around the area to find some local talent on the mat.
John Christopherson, Spencer, was the first signing. He will be wrestling at 125 pounds for the Lakers. Christopherson was a 4-time State Qualifier, 3-time State placer with a 4th, 5th and 3rd place finishes and 150 career wins.
“We are ecstatic to have John join our program. He has an aggressive style that will allow him to find success at the college level,” Coach Alesch said. “With John comes a hard work ethic, a passion for wrestling and a desire to be the best. I look forward to working with John and helping him get a great start to what should be a great collegiate wrestling career.”
Other local signed standouts include:
Austin Thompson, Graettinger; 133 pounds. Thompson was a State Qualifier.
Heath Nagel, Hartley; 133/141 pounds. Nagel was a 2-time state qualifier, placing once.
Brady Bailey, Emmetsburg; 165 pounds. Bailey was a 2-time State Placer.
Taylor Wegner, Emmetsburg; 197 pounds. Wegner was a State Placer.
Blaine Johnson, Spencer; 174 pounds. Johnson was a State Qualifier.
“Staying close to home and getting a great education at Iowa Lakes and still being able to wrestle at the collegiate level is something special our local athletes to have the opportunity to do,” Alesch stated. “I am looking forward to see what this year has in store.”
