For the first time since 2006, Spirit Lake is on their way to Fort Dodge for the state softball tournament. In a back and forth game last night, Whitlee Reitz hit a 1 out single in the top of the 7th that scored Bailee Newman from 3rd that put the Indians up over Osage 6-5. Then a lineout and pop out to Mackenzie Thate at short got the first two outs of the bottom of the 7th, and first baseman Carly Ites caught a pop foul to end it. Thate was officially 1 for 2 on the night, but also reached on an error and a walk and scored twice. Caitlyn Roberts was 2 for 3 with an rbi. Maddie Richter had 2 rbi’s both on a single in the 5th inning. Defensively, Spirit Lake turned two double plays, the first with the bases loaded that helped them get out of a no out jam in the 2nd inning, the other in the 6th.
Spirit Lake heads to state with a 23-8 record. Osage finishes their season at 25-4. The Indians will begin their state tournament taking on a 24-8 Clarke of Osceola team Monday afternoon at 3. The winner of that game will get the winner of Center Point Urbana and Greene County. The other side of the 3A bracket will see East Marshall against Mid Prairie of Wellman, and Bondurant Farrar takes on West Burlington Notre Dame.
