ILCC Swimming Announces Laker Aquatics Dive Club

The Lakers Swimming and Diving coaching staff is starting an
AAU/USA Dive club.  The goal of the Laker Aquatics Dive Club is to provide
a competitive and fun atmosphere for practices and competition.

It’s new to the region.

“Some may not know about AAU and USA
diving as we will be the only type of team in northwest Iowa,” said Johnathan Jordan, Head Swim
Coach.  “The closest team is in Ames.”

AAU is one of the largest non-profit volunteer sports
organizations in the United
States. They offer many different types of
sport organizations. Their goal is to be a dedicated organization that promotes
and develops amateur athletes and their physical fitness.

Laker Aquatics requires athletes to be at least the age of
10 along with being able to confidently swim in the deep end. With Laker
Aquatics Dive Club athletes will be required to obtain an AAU athlete
Membership with additional AAU insurance before they will be allowed to participate.
These memberships are $16 per year.

“Not only will this membership allow the athletes to compete
in AAU sanctioned events it will also allow them to be covered under Laker
Aquatics Insurance,” Diving Coach Amber Sorgea said.

Laker Aquatics will be having an informational meeting on
May 13 at 4p.m. at the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College in room 800. Sorgea
will be there to answer any questions and explain how practices will
work.  Athletes will be able to sign up at that time for practices which
will start on May 20. There will be several practice times that divers will be
able to choose from.

“I am thrilled to be able to provide this type of sport and
opportunity to northwest Iowa.”
Coach Sorgea said.  “It is something that I grew up with and would love to
provide the same experiences I had growing up around the sport.”
