Men’s Basketball
The Iowa Lakes Men’s Basketball team defeated the 16th ranked DMACC Bears 78-65 to move to 12-5 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.
The Lakers were led by Deondre Parks with 38 points. Parks also added 5 rebounds and 4 assist. Also scoring in double figures for the Lakers was Diamontae McKinley with 11. With Parks 21 second half points and a solid team defensive effort in which the Lakers held DMACC to 29% from the floor the Lakers were able to pull out the victory.
DMACC was led by Jamar Hurdle with 16.
The Lakers will host Dakota Wesleyans JV on Tuesday the 21st. Tip will be at 7:30 pm.
Wrestling
Iowa Lakes wrestling results from Regional duals on 1-18-2014.
The Iowa Lakes wrestling team went 3-1 on the day. Freddie Rodriguez and Brandon Sorenson highlighted the day with 4-0 records. This was the teams first competition back from Christmas break.
“We were sluggish as a team especially in our first 3 duals. Guys struggled fighting for 7 minutes, some of that could have been getting down to weight for the first time in several weeks but that is only an excuse. We needed guys to step up in some duals and that did not happen. With a month left you need to fight through that adversity and wrestle tougher when things are tough and today we did not do that as a team. I thought Freddie Rodriguez looked good as he has gotten down to 125 and seems to be hitting his stride. Freddie has put in the work to get back to form after being out of wrestling for awhile. These past few months of hard work is really showing. Brandon Sorenson at 174 had a great day going 4-0 on the day and taking down 5th ranked and returning All-American Garret Miller from Rochester. Brandon has put in a lot of extra work this season and has continued to grow each week as a college wrestler,” Coach Alesch.
Next competition is Wednesday Jan. 22nd vs Ellsworth at Iowa Lakes CC in Estherville, IA with a 7pm start time.
