Four
Iowa Lakes Community College men’s basketball athletes were named to the Iowa
Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II Men’s Basketball
All-Region teams and Head Coach Troy Larson was named NJCAA District 8 Coach of
the year.
Freshmen
Ben Shellim and Deondre Parks were both named to ICCAC All-Region first team.
Sophomore Josh Schaben was named to the second team ICCAC All-Region. Sophomore
Kelly Madison was named honorable mention All-Region.
Shellim
averaged 13.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for Iowa Lakes. Ben
shot 53% from the floor, 49% from the 3 point arc, and 82 percent from the free
throw line this season.
Parks
produced an average of 15.3 points per game. He shot 49 percent from the field,
including the 41 percent from beyond the arc, and 78% from the foul line.
Deondre also averaged 5.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game for the
Lakers.
Schaben
added 11.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for Iowa Lakes. He shot 60 percent
from the field.
Madison
averaged 14 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game for the Lakers. He
shot 75 percent from the free throw line.

proud of all four young men on their accomplishments. We have a great team this
year and an outstanding season resulting in numerous players being honored. Ben
and Deondre both improved tremendously throughout the year and performed very
consistently due to their work ethic and preparation. Josh is a load down low
and was one of the better posts players in NJCAA division II basketball. Kelly
is a tremendously skilled player who was very productive for us.” Commented
Coach Larson
Head
Coach Troy Larson guided the Lakers to a 26 – 8 season including the first
regular season Iowa Community College Athletic Conference championship in school
history. The Lakers would go on and win the regional championship earning the
school’s fourth trip to the NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball National
Tournament. Iowa Lakes did not lose a game during the month of January when they
were on a 11 game win streak. Iowa Lakes finished the regular season ranked
11th in the NJCAA Division II men’s basketball
poll.
Madison
and Parks were named to the ICCAC Region XI All-Tournament team and Ben Shellim
was named the tournament MVP following the Lakers
championship.
