HUSKIES WALK OFF WITH WACKY RIVALRY WIN OVER WINDOM

The Jackson County Central baseball team opened the Easton Bahr era with a wacky walk-off win over Windom Area on Tuesday night.

A catcher’s interference call against the Eagles with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning handed the Huskies a 3-2 victory at Wacker Field.

JCC head coach Easton Bahr says he just kept telling the boys to compete and they did until the very end.

Windom started the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning.

Carson Kolander responded with a two-out single to score Kash Gilbert in the home half to make it 2-1 Eagles.

Ryan Fricke smacked a double with two outs in the fourth and then Ben Gallagher scored him with a single to tie the game. Gallagher led off the bottom of the seventh with a double as well.

A pair of fellow seniors that just returned to baseball after several years away took part in the winning moment as Kasey Storm fouled the last pitch away at the plate and Isaac Hesebeck scored as a pinch runner for the intentionally-walked Gage Johnson.

Talan Holm tossed eight strikeouts in a season-opening complete-game gem where JCC retired the last 12 Eagles in order.

Holm scattered four hits with one walk and one hit by pitch.

The win snapped a nine-game JCC losing streak against archrival Windom dating back to May 4, 2021.

The 1-0 Huskies are off until next Tuesday when they visit Blue Earth Area.
