HUSKIES FALL IN STATE QUARTERFINAL

The Jackson County Central boys basketball team lost to Albany in the Class AA State Tournament on Tuesday night.

Albany started the quarterfinal with a 10-0 run and never trailed despite JCC cutting the deficit to 12-6 while taking the 85-49 decision.

Huskies head coach Alex Hein says it’s disappointing to not begin their State bracket journey with a better showing.

Weston Rowe led JCC with 15 points and eight rebounds. Roman Voss and Blaise Rowe each added seven points. Voss also had a team-high four assists. Albany head coach Grant Johnson says extra help and all-out effort are keys to slowing down strong, gifted athletes like Voss.

Ben Gallagher put in six points. Sullivan Hall scored four points. Michael Riepke and Carter Buhl each had two points. Carson Doescher made a three-pointer.
Thomas Bidne’s made three-pointer got the entire Target Center crowd cheering late in the game.

The 25-7 Huskies are not done yet. JCC will play Perham in the consolation semifinals on Thursday inside the Gangelhoff Center at Concordia University in St. Paul.

The 18-13 Yellowjackets endured a 70-49 loss to top-seeded Goodhue in the first AA quarterfinal on Tuesday night.

If JCC wins on Thursday, they will play in the consolation championship on Friday afternoon.

Albany earned a semifinal date with Goodhue on Friday night inside Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus.
The other side of the bracket begins Wednesday night at UM.
Pequot Lakes is the #2 seed playing #7 seed Blake in the early quarterfinal. Minnehaha Academy is the #3 seed playing #6 seed Waseca in the Wednesday nightcap.

The Class AAAA quarterfinals got State Tournament action started at the Target Center on Tuesday.
Top-seeded Tartan routed #8 seed Blaine 72-44 and then #5 seed Chaska earned a 23rd straight win with a 71-53 victory over #4 seed Lakeville South.
Apple Valley delivered the biggest upset as the #7 seed by outlasting #2 seed Wayzata 75-73 in the final seconds. Maple Grove set the high mark in the class with the 82-65 win over #6 seed Alexandria.
Tartan will play Chaska and Apple Valley gets Maple Grove in Thursday’s semifinals. Blaine meets Lakeville South and Wayzata has a date with Alexandria in the consolation bracket.

State Tournament action continues on Wednesday with the Class AAA quarterfinals inside Williams Arena. The Class A quarterfinals are on Thursday inside the Target Center.
