Huskies Begin Quest For Sixth Straight State Trip

The Jackson County Central wrestling team begins the trek toward a sixth straight State Tournament as the top Section 3A Tournament seed at home on Thursday night.

The 17-3 Huskies are unbeaten in section competition this season. JCC hasn’t lost a section dual since 2020 while making five straight trips to the State Tournament. The Huskies are ranked 12th in the latest Class A polls. JCC is led by four state-ranked wrestlers including Kyler Thier, Isaac Rodriguez, Payten Sorbel, and Evan Bartholomaus.

The #8 seed Luverne Cardinals and #9 seed Red Rock Central Falcons are wrestling at 6:00 for the right to face JCC.

The Cardinals are 7-15 overall with section wins over RRC and Springfield. The Huskies routed the Cardinals 60-16 in Luverne during the December 4 season opener. Luverne’s last win over JCC came in January of 2017.

The Falcons are 4-17 overall with their only section win over Springfield. The Huskies did not face RRC in the regular season. JCC lost to Wabasso/RRC back in January 2019.

We have full Huskies coverage on KKOJ starting at around 7:15 p.m.

Adrian/Ellsworth is the #2 seed with the other first-round bye. The Dragons welcome #7 Redwood Valley and #10 Springfield with the winner of that dual facing the host. Pipestone Area is the #3 seed hosting #6 Wabasso. Fulda/Murray County Central is the #4 seed hosting #5 Tracy-Miroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove.

Four teams will advance to Saturday in Wabasso with the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. and the section championship at 2:30 p.m. with the champion going to the State Tournament.
