HMS Softball Tops South O’Brien


Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn scored five runs in
the third and six runs in the fourth en route to a 12-4 victory over South
O’Brien in War Eagle Conference Softball on Wednesday night. The home team got a
solo home run in the third from Jaylin Rieck and a three run homer from Kathryn
Ahlers in the fourth. Overall Ahlers went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five
RBI. Rieck went 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs scored, and an RBI. Krista
Orthmann got the win on the mound for the Hawks. She went four and 1/3 innings,
giving up four runs (all earned) on seven hits. She walked one and struck out
one. Kendra Zeutenhorst got the save for the Hawks. She pitched the final 2 and
2/3 innings, giving up just two hits. HMS is now 8-9 (5-7 War Eagle). They will
partake in the Okoboji tournament Thursday and Saturday. South O’Brien’s Taylor
Paulsen took the loss. She gave up nine runs, eight of them earned. She struck
out four and walked two in just over three innings of work. Emily Riedemann
pitched the final 3 innings, giving up three runs (all earned) on three hits.
She struck out two and walked one. Rachel Struve went 3-for-4 for SOS with a run
scored and an RBI. They fall to 4-10 (3-9 War Eagle) and also travel to the
Okoboji tournament on Thursday.
