Girls Recap:
North Union’s defense kept Harris-Lake Park out of rhythm the entire night and the Warriors evened up the Cornbelt Conference girls’ basketball standings with a 46-40 victory over the Wolves on Friday night in Armstrong. NU got an early 12-2 lead but H-LP cut it to 12-8 after one quarter. The second quarter saw neither offense get much going and the Wolves took a 17-14 lead into the locker room. In the third, the Warriors outscored their entire first half point total, retaking the lead 30-24. Early in the fourth quarter, H-LP used two NU turnovers to get back the lead, but the Warriors responded with a pair of three pointers and would go on to win.
Alexis Valvick and Madison Bollig led a balanced offense for NU with 10 each. Valvick had a trio of three pointers and all of her points came in the second half. The Warriors are 9-4 (6-1 Cornbelt) and hosts Granada Huntley East Chain out of Minnesota on Saturday. H-LP got 14 from Noreen Morrow and 13 from Katherine Ihnen off the bench. The Wolves are now 12-6 (6-1 Cornbelt) and host Ellsworth out of Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.
Boys Recap:
The lead never got to a comfortable margin but Harris-Lake Park took care of the basketball and got four players into double figures in a 71-65 victory over North Union on Friday night in Armstrong. NU built an early lead but H-LP cut it to 16-15 after one quarter. H-LP led 36-30 at halftime and 53-44 after three quarters. The Wolves at times led by as much as 12 but the Warriors cut the lead down to three with five minutes to go. H-LP made their free throws and limited their turnovers to seal the victory.
Cole Bosma led all scorers with 19 for H-LP. Brady Van Iperen had 16. Dalhton Burdorf came off the bench for 15 points and a pair of steals. Jordan Kyle had 10. H-LP improves to 9-7 (7-1 Cornbelt). They host Ellsworth, MN on Saturday afternoon. NU falls to 3-13 (3-5 Cornbelt). They were paced by Aric Runge’s 17 points. Alex Krantz had 15 including four treys. The Warriors host Granada Huntley East Chain, MN on Saturday.
