Former Indians Prep To Be Inducted Into The IGHSAU Softball Hall Of Fame

Spirit Lake’s Rachel Gerking will be inducted into the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Softball Hall of Fame on Friday July 26th before the start of the Class 2A championship softball game in Fort Dodge.  She joins 3 other inductees that include Colfax Mingo’s Libby Hysell, Pella Christian’s Emily Grimes and Southeast Webster Grands Jennifer Jorgensen.

Gerking played outfield for Spirit Lake from 2002-2006.  She was named to the elite all state team as a sophomore and junior and was a part of four state tournament teams and was selected to 3 all tournament teams.  As a sophomore, she batted .568 and did not strike out all season in helping the Indians with the Class 3A state title.  Her career batting average was .503.  She then played at UNI from 2007-2011 where she was a first team Missouri Valley all conference selection with a .366 batting average with a school record 59 RBI’s her junior year.

She is currently the head softball coach at Spirit Lake and the school’s athletic director.

Once again, the induction ceremony will take place at the Girls State Softball Tournament Friday July 26th in Fort Dodge before the start of the Class 2A championship game.
