The Fairmont girls hockey team started the Section 3A Tournament with a dominant win and eliminated Windom Area at Martin County Arena.
The Cardinals took a 5-1 lead after the first period, made it 9-2 after the second, and advanced past the Eagles with a 12-2 final score. Windom finished the season at 6-17-1 overall. The 14-9-2 Cardinals visit Luverne on Saturday after those Cardinals blanked Morris/Benson Area 15-0 at Blue Mound Ice Arena.
The Windom Area boys hockey team lost a decision to Minnesota River in Le Sueur.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first period, led 8-0 after the second, and won by the 10-1 final score. Nash Dietz scored a short-handed goal for Windom. The 7-16 Eagles have split their last six games with a Monday visit to Faribault up next.

The Bluejays outshot the Cardinals 71-8 in the game. Waseca led 9-0 after the first period, 19-0 after the second, and won by the 24-0 final. The 6-13 Cardinals visit Luverne on Tuesday.
