The Emmetsburg girls opened the 1st quarter shooting 67% and led 24 – 9. They would build their lead to 40 – 13 at the half and cruise to a 62 – 35 victory against Estherville. The E’hawks would finish the game shooting 45% and had 3 players in double figures. They were led by Alexa Naig with 15 points, Bailey Naig with 12 and Tegan Olson with 10. Estherville was led by Carson Gjerde with 10 points. Emmetsburg has now won 3 in a row.
Emmetsburg improves to 7 – 4, 5 – 2 and will host LeMars Tuesday on Y 100. Estherville falls to 0 – 13, 0 – 7 and will be at Spencer Tuesday.
Boys
Poor shooting doomed Emmetsburg on Friday night as Estherville defeated Emmetsburg 80 – 50. ELC would shoot 58% for the ball game compared to just 30% for Emmetsburg. It was only a 14 – 6 lead for Estherville after the 1st quarter, but it was the 2nd quarter in which Estherville pulled away outscoring Emmetsburg 25 – 15. Estherville was led by Joe Heinrichs with 26 points including 6 three pointers. Emmetsburg was led by Michael Pugh with 19 points and he had 5 three pointers. Estherville snaps their 3 game losing streak while at the same time ending Emmetsburg’s 2 game winning streak.
Emmetsburg falls to 5 – 6, 2 – 5 and will host LeMars Tuesday. Estherville improves to 8 – 5, 4 – 3 and will be at Spencer Tuesday.
