Class 2A Postseason Baseball Scores From July 20

District 2 in Spirit Lake

Spirit Lake got off to a fast start again Saturday night thanks to a homerun by Brandon Stoll and never looked back in a 13-3 victory over North Union in 5 innings.  The Indians recorded 13 runs on 13 hits and they were led by Stoll who was 3-4 with 3 RBI’s.  Also, Nile Skogerboe, Cole Thate and Andrew Ites, the 7,8 and 9 hitters in the lineup were a combined 6-10 with 2 RBI’s and 5 runs scored.  North Union collected 3 runs on 4 hits and were led by Sawyer Doocy as he went 1-2 with 2 RBI’s.

The winning pitcher was Brandon Stoll going 5 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 7 and walking 4.  The losing pitcher was Cody Runksmeier going 3 2/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 9 hits while striking out 5.  North Union’s season comes to a close at 25-9.  Spirit Lake improves to 15-10.

Spirit Lake will now take on Hull Western Christian on Tuesday night in Spencer for the right to go to state.  The wolfpack from HWC beat Sioux Center on Saturday night 9-2.
