Class 2A District 2
Spirit Lake scored first in the rematch of the two lakes conference teams with a 2 run homerun off the bat of Reese Salmon in the first that put Spirit Lake up 2 – 0 after 1 and would never look back defeating Emmetsburg 17 – 6 in 5 innings.. The Indians would score in every inning with their biggest inning coming in the 4th scoring 8 runs while batting 12. Spirit Lake scored 17 runs on 10 hits and were led by Paul Brown’s 3 – 3 effort with 2 RBI’s, Reese Salmon was 1 – 2 with 2 RBI’s and Nick Wetzeler was 1 – 3 with 3 RBI’s. Emmetsburg scored 6 runs on 7 hits, all six runs came in the 4th inning. They were led by Jacob Kibbie going 1 – 3 with 2 RBI’s and Greg Wesley and Zach Anderson each had a hit and an RBI. The winning pitcher was Brandon Stoll going 3 innings giving up 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 4. The losing pitcher was Luke Jackson going 2 innings giving up 5 runs on 4 hits.

Emmetsburg finishes their season at 12 – 14 and say goodbye to seniors in Jake Jackson and Taylor Wegner. Spirit Lake improves to 14 – 10 and will host North Union Saturday in a Class 2A District 2 final.
In the other semifinal, North Union beat Sioux Central 10 – 0 in 6 innings. 7 of North Union’s 10 runs came after 2 outs in the inning. They scored 3 runs in the 1st, 4 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th and 1 in 6th. The warriors had 10 runs on 7 hits and were led by Brandon Kollasch as he went 1 – 4 with 2 RBI’s. Also, Colin Runksmeier, Sayer Doocy, Spencer Ricke, Garrett Johnson and Jake Govern each had a hit and an RBI. Sioux Central finished the game with 0 runs on 1 hit. Franky Perkins was 1 – 2 with a single. The rebels never touched third base, the closest they would get is second base. The winning pitcher was Sawyer Doocy going 5 1/3 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 11 and walking 4. The losing pitcher was Tim Saunders going 3 2/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 5 hits.
North Union has won 9 in a row and 13 of their last 14 and improve to 25 – 8 and will take on Spirit Lake on Saturday. Sioux Central finishes the season at 6 – 24.
