Class 2A District 2
On Monday night, the postseason for Class 2A boy’s basketball got started in Estherville. The first game on the night featured Emmetsburg from the Lakes Conference and Okoboji from the Siouxland Conference. Emmetsburg would come out of the gates quickly leading 7 – 0 before Okoboji called timeout and answered by finishing the quarter on a 15 – 6 run to lead 15 – 13 after 1. In the 2nd quarter, the E’hawks outscored Okoboji 20 – 7 to lead 33 – 22 at the half. In the 3rd quarter, Okoboji outscored Emmetsburg 26 – 15 to tie it up at 48. After a bunch of lead changes in the 4th, the game would be tied at 63 all with Emmetsburg having the last possession with 27 seconds left. Austin Krause would miss a long two from the left side. The ball would bounce off the rim into the hands of Erik Drost who put the shot up at the buzzer to give Emmetsburg the lead and the win at 65 – 63.
Both teams shot 47% from the field but Emmetsburg out rebounded Okoboji 27 – 17. The E’hawks was paced by Erik Drost with 22 points and Austin Krause had 15 points. Okoboji was led by Holt Hunziker with 23 points including 7 three pointers. As a team Okoboji made 11 three pointers on the night. Okoboji finishes their season at 2 – 20 and say goodbye to seniors Brett Barthman, Ben Meyer, Tyeson Barnett and Ben DeMuth. Emmetsburg improves to 8 – 14 and will play at Hull Western Christian Thursday February 20th at 8 PM on Y 100.
Also in district 2, Estherville defeated Sibley Ocheyedan 83 – 63 and will play Hartley Melvin Sanborn on Thursday at 6:30 PM on KUOO.
In Class 2A District 3, Manson NW Webster beat Sioux Central 59 – 43 and South Central Calhoun defeated Pocahontas 67 – 52.
