Catherine Straus Named Lakes Conf POY and Ready For The State Tourney

The Lakes Conference has named Spirit Lake-Okoboji senior Catherine Straus as its girl’s tennis Player of the Year. Straus had a conference record of 9-0 at number 1 singles, tallying 190 points. That put her 55 points ahead of Kenna Mongan of Cherokee for the top spot. Straus was the Lakes conference tournament champion at number one singles and has an
overall singles record of 21-2. Straus and her SL-O teammates were Lakes conference dual meet champions as well as Lakes conference tournament champions. She placed fourth in last season’s state singles tournament and is the second seed at this year’s state tournament. This is Catherine’s second
time receiving Player of the Year honors. In her three years of playing at the number one position on the team, Straus never lost a Lakes conference singles match.

Sports Director Scott Nolte was able to talk to Catherine about the regular season, regional tournament and the upcoming state tournament.
