William J. “Willie” Christie, III, 52, of Spirit Lake, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Lakes Regional Healthcare of Spirit Lake.
A memorial service for Willie will be held Friday May 23 at 4:00 PM at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Spirit Lake. Burial with Military Honors will be held in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
Willie was born on February 15, 1973, to William J. II and Bernadette G. (Gales) Christie in Bitburg, Germany. He graduated from the Admiral Farragut Academy in Pine Beach, NJ. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Virginia Tech University. Willie proudly served his country in the US Army. After he was honorably discharged from the Army as a 1st Lieutenant, he continued to serve his country as a Sergeant in the Virginia National Guard. He served in the 506th Parachute Infantry and later in the 116th Infantry, two historic Normandy D-Day Regiments invasion.
He was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Spirit Lake. In his free time, he enjoyed skiing, hunting, reading and running.
He is survived by his parents William J. II and Bernadette G. Christie. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Ronald and Clara Gales and paternal grandparents William J. and Parsons Christie.
