Mound, MN – Shannon Lee Chapman, 60, of Mound, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on October 25th, 2024 at his home, leaving family and friends in deep sorrow.
Shannon was born to Linda and Jerry Klett on April 24th,1964 in Spencer, Iowa, and was lovingly raised by Linda and David Chapman. He attended Spencer schools from second grade through his sophomore year where he made many lifelong friends. While attending Spencer Junior High School, he was an accomplished and active swimmer on their champion swim team. He transferred to Culver Academies in Culver, IN for his junior year and senior years where he graduated in 1982. In 1989, he received a BA in psychology from the University of Minnesota, and soon after found work with Norwest Banks before moving to San Francisco upon their merger with Wells Fargo. Shannon was a cherished coworker who dedicated 25 years of leadership in asset management for Wells Fargo and subsequent companies. After moving to California, he met his true love, Paula Brown, through mutual friends. They married on December 9, 2000 at a ceremony in the vineyards of Hans Fahden winery in Calistoga, CA. After moving into a home in San Rafael, CA, they had their beloved son, Ethan. In 2013, they moved to Minnetonka, MN, and stayed, planning to retire in Mound with a beautiful view of Lake Minnetonka.
Along with his love of being a father and husband, Shannon cherished the time spent at his grandparents’ house on Lake Okoboji in Iowa, where he developed a passion for water sports like sailing, boating, water skiing, and windsurfing. Shannon also had an unmatched love for trivia, rarely bested in a battle of wits, always ready to challenge anyone brave enough to play him at Trivial Pursuit. He loved to cook, manning the grill almost every night, providing great feasts for everyone present. A man of big spirits, he could always be found cracking jokes and laughing with friends and family.
Not long before his passing, Shannon lost his wife, Paula, from terminal breast cancer on August 16th, 2024.
Shannon is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Edgar and Ilo Hatten of Okoboji, IA; his paternal grandparents Earl “Squeeg” and Ruth Chapman of Spencer, IA; and his uncle Dan Chapman of Okoboji, IA. Shannon is survived by his son Ethan Chapman of Minneapolis, MN; his mother Linda Chapman of Minnetonka, MN; his father, David Chapman of Minneapolis, MN; his sisters Kate (Charles) Galloway of Stillwater, MN and Liz (Casey) Klinkenborg of Elk River, MN; his aunt Susan (Jim) Fisher of Denton, TX; his uncles Thomas Hatten of Topeka, KS, David (Gracie) Hatten of Austin, TX, Sam (Heidi) Chapman of Spencer, IA and Paul (Connie) Chapman of Okoboji, IA; and his cousin, Chris Lampe of Omaha, NE. He also leaves behind many dear friends who will forever cherish his memory and the joy he brought to their lives.
