Laura Nelson, 67, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. There will be a visitation held two hours prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be held at a later date in the Rush Lake Cemetery in Curlew, IA. Laura Leona Nelson was born on September 13, 1958, to Robert and Ella (Gillman) Manwarren in Iowa City, IA. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School. She was united in marriage to Randall Nelson on June 3, 1978, at the catholic church in Emmetsburg, IA. She was a caretaker for Life Skills in Spirit Lake.
In her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo on Tuesday nights and spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews who she called her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Randall Nelson of Spirit Lake, IA; siblings Jerry Manwarren of Flandreau, SD; Evelyn Schneider of Mallard, IA; Robert (Peggy) Manwarren of Armstrong, IA; Barbara (Tony) Schneider of Havelok, IA; Thomas Manwarren of Emmetsburg, IA; Bonnie (Hank) VanLenning of Spirit Lake, IA; sisters-in-law Alice Manwarren of Emmetsburg, IA; and Connie Manwarren of Emmetsburg, IA; her grandchildren Shelby, Achech, David, Marium, Musa, Oleme, Joella, Ajula, Javon, De De, Olivia, Megan, Raven, and Kristina; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and her mother-in-law Lillan Nelson of Worthington, MN; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Dawn) Nelson, Gary (Jennifer) Nelson, and Roger Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law Arvid, and two brothers, James and Paul and her brother-in-law David Nelson.
