Youth In Philanthropy Holds Year-End Celebration At Camp Foster

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Okoboji Foundation congratulated the students who participated in the Youth In Philanthropy during the current school year at a celebration Wednesday at Camp Foster.

Students illustrated the lasting positive impact of their work as they stood under the roof structure on the Camp Foster Chapel, funded by their Youth in Philanthropy Grant in 2011. They also gathered around their $18,000 check to the Lakes community to announce new grants for the Spirit Lake Kiwanis splash pad and renovation projects at Discovery House.

Youth in Philanthropy teaches the next generation about the importance of community giving. Students learn about the positive impact of Okoboji Foundation grants to other non-profits and raise their own funds to make annual grants steered by student decision.

Okoboji or Spirit Lake High School students may apply for the program each September. Students meet once a month from October through May. More information is available at the Okoboji Foundation website at www.okobojifoundation.org or by calling (712) 332-7177.
