(Arnolds Park)– Students participating in the Okoboji Foundation’s Youth In Philanthropy program were recently involved in a project to help out less fortunate children in the area over the holidays. Ali Schmitz, Administrative Director for the Okoboji Foundation, tells KUOO news 35 children were benefited through “Project Christmas”…
“We have an anonymous donor to the foundation that has provided funds for the last seven years and that goes to children in need. We’ve worked with local schools and Kaden’s Closet to identify students that would benefit from this program. So each of our Youth In Philanthropy students receives funds to shop for those gifts and then we also provide gift cards to their preference and a Fareway gift card, too, so a great tradition that we have been able to do with the Youth In Philanthropy students and also with students in our area.”
On a related note, Schmitz says students participating in Youth In Philanthropy for this current school year recently held their third meeting…
“And in this meeting we went over our goals. We have set a goal of $75,000 to raise for this year so we’re excited to get that going and continue to do great things in our area and provide grants which we’ll be reviewing grants at the end of February those are due, and so in March they’ll be reviewing those grants and putting that money back into our community.”
Donations to Youth In Philanthropy may be sent to the Okoboji Foundation, P.O. Box 593, Okoboji…51355.
