(Spirit Lake)– The Strong Kid’s Campaign is kicking off for the season. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has the story…(click here for actuality.) Camp Foster and the Bedell Family YMCA offer numerous programs for all ages. But not all families can afford to send kids to camp or class. Camp Foster Executive Camp Director Josh Carr says The Strong Kids program is designed to help. “In our Strong Kids Campaign our community comes together to help kids and families attend programs the YMCA and camp for the ones that don’t necessarily have the ability to pay. We want everybody to enjoy camp, everybody to enjoy youth swimming lessons and youth soccer and all the amazing things with a membership at the Y. And our community comes together. There’s lots of way to help, lots of ways to volunteer to get this program going, and it’s very worthy. We’ve sent a lot of kids, spent a lot of money to help people with camp programs, memberships and so on.”
He adds that an event coming up in April will benefit the Strong Kids Campaign. “Support comes obviously in many different ways. Of course time, treasures, talent. The treasures you can always contact someone at the Y or ask to talk to someone at the Y about it. Any type of cash donation is helpful to send kids to camp or Y programs. If you have a certain way you think you could help us by doing something to help bring those funds in maybe you don’t have the funds but you have the talent, you could help us out. Maybe time…you could help us get set up for this thing. April 13th we have a party and it’s kind of a big bash–it’s fun, it’s a prom theme. This is kind of a window in the year in which we do most of our campaigning.”
